Contests for Small Business Owners

A blog dedicated to small business startups, technology trends, online marketing, and consumer observation and opinion. This post was written on February 18th, 2008 in category: Website Design. These are the sole opinion of Blake Newman, an independent blogger.

Could you use a new company van? How about a professionally made logo? Or maybe $10,000? These are just some of the current contest going on that are geared towards small business owners.

Win Free Stuff

It may sound like a scam, but most sweepstakes are legit. The fake ones are easy to tell because they’ll ask for personal information like bank accounts or social security numbers. The goal of a sweepstakes is to share informaation about a product. You might have a sweepstakes giving away free product samples to get people excited about your business. These companies are doing the same thing, they just target you.

First up, is a contest from Ford Vehicles to win a free Ford Connect. This is a cargo mini-van that is perfect for small businesses that need to transport small and mid-sized goods; like catering or delivery companies.

Next, is a free branding package including a logo and business card design. This is an essay contest, so make a good case about why you need to have a strong image to go with your company, and you could be the winner.

HP is also offering a log package for your business with its new contest. Runners up will win HP color printers, which are great for any small business.

Many small business owners know what it is like to have a messy office, and MyFax wants to help you get organized with $10,000 to the person with the messiest office. Send a pic or video of you office to win.

Have an idea but no business? Submit it to the Ideablob contest, and your business idea could win $10,000 to help it grow.

Does Anyone Really Win Anything?

Yes. This comming from someone who supported their DVD habit in college by winning contests. The odds of winning any contest isn’t great, but it is better than winning the lottery. Think of how much money people spend on that?

The one thing to keep in mind is that the companies holding these contests are doing so for marketing reasons. They want to interest you in their product. So, you can expect some spam emails about their product, or a phone call asking if you are interested.

Who knows? You might end up actually realizing you do need some of these products. You might even consider having your own sweepstakes to market your product.
